사랑은 황금인가? 다이아몬드인가? 무엇으로도 깨뜨려지지않고, 언제까지라도 변하지 않을.

황금같고 다이아몬드같은 사랑을 꿈꾸며 그걸 얻기 위해 수단 방법을 가리지않고 기꺼이 자신의 온 삶을 바치려던 사람.

그러나 그의 손에 쥐어진 건 도금된 사랑, 눈부시게 반짝이는 듯하나 쉽게 부서져버릴 큐빅.

너무나 쉽게 표면의 얄팍한 금은 벗겨져 녹 슨 내부가 드러난다.

(녹슨 내부가 드러나는 건 그 여자의 사랑뿐 아니라 개츠비의 삶 자체도 마찬가지여서 어쩌면 그토록 사랑에 집착하는 것이 그 사랑이 언제건 실체가 드러나버릴 자기 삶을 진짜 황금으로 바꿔 줄거라고 믿었기 때문이었을지도 모르겠다)

그 사실을 모르는 채로 죽음을 맞이하게 되는 건 어쩌면 다행인가.

그렇게 사랑에 모든 걸 건 남자에게 진실은 오히려 죽음보다 더 큰 고통이었을지도 모른다.

불만 보고 뛰어들다 결국 그 불에 타죽는 한 사람의 생이 허망하기 그지없다.

 

영화는 도입부부터 눈의 호사다.

언젠가 사람들과 섞여 우연히라도 만나지길 바라며 옛 연인의 집 건너편에 집을 사서 매일밤 파티를 벌이는 장면.

스타일잡지의 한 페이지, 페이지인 것처럼 화려하기 그지없는 각양각색의 의상과 소품들은 눈이 즐기기에 모자람이 없었다. 

그렇게 처음엔 영화 속 대사처럼 놀이동산 풍경이다가 중반부터 본격적 드라마가 펼쳐지는데, 사랑, 질투, 욕망, 수줍음, 환희, 분노, 초조, 외로움...  그 모든 감정이 너울대는 얼굴의 디카프리오의 연기는 충분히 드라마에 몰두할 수 있게 만드는 힘이 있었다.

재미있게 본 영화.

 

영화 끝나고 크레딧 올라가는 동안 흐르는 음악이 너무 좋았는데 그 제목 확인하고 싶어 크레딧을 끝까지 확인하고 싶었지만 극장정리하는 분들이 기다리고있어 중간에 나오는 바람에 미처 확인을 못했네. 무슨 노래였는지 꼭 알고싶은데...

 

인터넷세상 대단하다.

아, 인터넷! 하는 생각이 들어 검색해보니 음악들 다 올라와있구나.

아마 이 곡이었던 것 같은데...
